Description
This past weekend I spent some time walking through the amazing Pacific Rhododendrons at Rhododendron Flats. It seems like you are walking through a magical forest full of beautiful pink blossoms! The Pacific Rhododendron is protected by law in BC as it is a rarity here. The lush moss carpet at Rhododendron Flats provides damp soil during the spring and early summer for the rhododendrons to bloom. These rhododendrons are part of an isolated population at the northern extent of their range. The nearest populations occur on the Olympic Penninsula and south of Mt. Rainier, with two other small isolated populations occurring on Vancouver Island. And yes, they are native to the area and are growing wild in the forest at Manning Park.
